To cut back on the information in my Artist comment for my upcoming post, I decide to post Sailor Maia's Evolution in my journal.

I’m so excited to finally be able to reveal her to the masses (or my three watchers. I love you guys!). This shows how long I actually worked on bringing Keiko-chan to life.

Sailor Maia is the 2nd revised version of my first otaku senshi, Sailor Starlight (I know. Its a really bad name). She was named after me and was created to be in a fan fic that would be the third arc of Sailor Moon (meaning I watched the dubbed at the time and they had only released the first two arcs to America at the time). She was supposed to be the leader of the galaxy senshi/ scouts, which consisted of Sailor Starlight, Sailor Starbright, Sailor Star, Sailor Shooting Star, Sailor Comet, Sailor Sun, and Star Knight. They were working with the sol senshi as well as the rainbow senshi (I know. It’s a really bad name.) . She was supposed to be the main character, the twin sister of own of the villains and fall in love with Sailor Blue (a man). When I look back on her original creation, it makes me giggle. I was such a fangirl in middle school.

I redesigned Sailor Starlight in high school. I switched her colors so that pink would be her main color and not blue. I gave her halfback pigtails and fuku to look more like Saturns. I renamed her Lisa Love (I think my naming skills got worse). I redesigned the story so that only some of the galaxy senshi would be in it (Sailor Starlight, Sailor Starbright, Star Knight and Sailor Shooting Star) and it included three “new” senshi, Sailor Dark Star, Sailor Star Dust and Sailor Star Fire. Those last three were actually recreations of my moon senshi Sailor Dark Moon, Sailor Moon Dust and Sailor Moon Fire (I had weird ideas in middle school). There was also a Sailor Chibi Star, who looked quite a bit like Sailor Starlight. The team was called the Star Chaser Senshi and Sailor Star Dust was the leader. Sailor Starlight was supposed to fall in love with Star Knight and her twin sister was still a villain for a period of time. The story was supposed to take place after Stars and combined ideas from the Stars manga.

Last year, I got back into Sailor Moon again. Sailor Starlight popped into my mind, but I felt she was very typical of an otaku senshi. As a result, I started researching Greek myth in hopes to find a way to keep my senshi team and the star theme. I found that in the myth of Pleiades [link] Because of this myth/ constellation, the Star Chaser Senshi became the Pleiades Senshi or the Seven Sister Senshi. To go along with this theme, the original Pleiades senshi (their ancestors) were all sisters. Their family tree began to spread farther and farther apart until the Merope star burned out. In fear, the male carriers of a Sailor Crystal married with the Female Pleiades senshi. The three couples produced three sets of sisters: Sailor Maia & Sailor Electra (Starbright), Sailor Sterope (Shooting Star) & Sailor Taygete (Dark Star) and Sailor Alcyone (Starfire) and Sailor Celaeno (Stardust). Sailor Chibi Star and Star Knight were also recreated into Sailor Merope and Merope Kamen. There is more to the story but I’ll explain it in my next post.
